Forest School

At Marbella Montessori we have the very first Forest School on the Costa del Sol, a learning resource within the wooded area of our wonderful grounds.

Forest Schools which first originated in Denmark are continuing to grow in popularity in the UK.

This exciting initiative greatly benefits all our children as it allows them to explore, develop their natural curiosity through hands-on practical experiences while

respecting and enjoying the natural environment which so well compliments the Montessori ethos.

The children learn new skills, both within and beyond the English National Curriculum whilst being taught to mange risk not ordinarily found in main stream schools; work together, building self-esteem and self-confidence and problem solve whilst engaged in a physical and social environment.

Although many of the activities either reinforce planned classroom work and/or are child led, these also include:

  • Minibeasting

  • Nature crowns

  • Shelter building

  • Forest School stories

  • Basic tool use to make minibeast hotels, wooden snakes, tree cookies, leaf presses etc.

  • 123...where are you? Hide and seek game

  • Mud painting

  • Exploring and collecting woodland materials to make natural art

  • Scavenger hunts

  • Clay creatures

  • Natural music and singing

  • Fire craft and cooking food Key Stage 2 pupils and subject to strict risk assessment and adult supervision.
