We pride ourselves in providing a fun, practical approach to education where each child follows their own personalized learning programme, tailored to their own individual ability and from where they grow to become confident and independent life long learners.
As we are a small vibrated community of children, parents and teachers, every member of staff knows each pupil as a special and unique individual. The children are given a greater level of responsibility and trust than is found in ordinary schools that in turn fosters the acquisition of other life skills; independence, self-confidence and high levels of self-esteem. Traditional values of respect, kindness, empathy, honesty, good manners and social awareness are actively promoted throughout the school on a daily basis.
Our educational programme is primarily based on the English National Curriculum but incorporating the Montessori ethos of self-responsibility, freedom of choice (within limits) and child centered active learning. We also follow the language and science parts of the Spanish Curriculum. The children enjoy sport, music, dance/drama, yoga by specialist teachers as well as gardening, cookery and outdoor learning in our Forest School. There are termly whole school challenges and termly educational trips to support topic work.
There is a well-stocked library of fiction and non-fiction books with computers and i Pads in all classrooms to support active learning.
We do not believe in copious worksheets or homework beyond a reading book, spellings, the occasional unfinished piece of work and the child's own project/interest. We believe in the importance of childhood at the end of each the day.
All tuition and guidance is delivered in English. For non-native (English) children, additional EAL support is provided and there is an optional Cambridge English after-school club.
We provide daily phonic and intervention groups for both high and low achievers and we are able to provide Special Educational Needs expertise should this be required.
In accordance with UK guidelines, the children's progress is carefully monitored including regular informal assessments for reading, writing and mathematics.
We consider our school to be unique in all that we do and whilst our utmost priority is to provide every possible opportunity for each and every child to reach their full academic, social and physical potential, we also wish them to leave us with fond childhood memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
