In accordance with the Montessori ethos, the 3 primary classes are of mixed ages; Class 1 / 2 for children aged 5 and 6, Class 3 / 4 for ages 7 and 8 and Class 5 / 6 for 9 to 11 year old's. This vertical grouping enables the older children to help the youngest whilst they in turn, aspire to achieve that of their elders both educationally and socially.

Class sizes are a maximum of 15 children with one UK qualified teacher and classroom assistant.

The children follow Key Stage One and Key Stage Two of the new English National Curriculum which cover the following subjects:

  • English

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Design and Technology

  • Computing

  • History

  • Geography

  • Art and Design

  • Religious Education

  • Music

  • Physical Education

The children are each provided with a personal learning plan covering the core subjects for completion each week during the morning Montessori Work Cycle. This is based on each pupil's stage of development taking into account their strengthens and weaknesses and where freedom of choice is followed in accordance with the Montessori principles. It is also during this time that pupils participate in Maths, English and Reading focus activities. The afternoons are more structured based with subjects being learnt through current best educational practices as adopted in the finest British schools and where specialist teachers provide Physical Education, Sport, Music, Dance and Yoga.

The children enjoy a daily Spanish lesson which includes language and the sciences in accordance with the Spanish curriculum.

Personal tutorials, focus lessons and the use of independent, child centered and a practical 'hands on' approach to education promotes self-ownership, self-responsiblity and a real joy of learning.
